Green Technology

Green technology that enables you to enjoy the benefits of modern lifestyle without harming the environment is no longer a science fiction. The engineers and inventors managed to develop technology which uses alternative sources of energy to generate power, ways to conserve energy and reuse waste materials in order to reduce the pressure on non-renewable resources such as fossil fuels which are not only seriously polluting the environment but are also available in limited amounts. Even more, they are gradually running out. It remains unknown how much oil we still have left but some scientists believe that the peak oil has already been reached. This means that we do not have much choice other than to look for alternative sources of energy and reduce the rate of energy consumption in order to buy time to replace the current energy system with a sustainable and environmentally friendly one.

Technology which uses renewable sources of energy to generate power is available to the consumers for quite some time. Photovoltaic solar panels can be seen on many people’s roofs, however, most of the population still cannot afford this technology because it is relatively expensive. The investment pays off in the long run but it is extremely difficult to collect enough money for enough solar panels to generate electricity to cover your needs. But even if you cannot afford the latest solar panel technology, you can most certainly afford simple solar panels to heat the water. In case if even this option is too expensive for you at the moment and if you like DIY projects, you can build solar panels by yourself. It is not as difficult as it may seem at a first glance, while the instructions can easily be found online.

Solar energy seems very promising but it is not the only source of renewable energy. It is also possible to generate power from wind and tidal energy where the conditions allow, while geothermal energy can be used to both generate electricity and heat. But the mentioned sources of sustainable energy except geothermal pumps and solar panels have not yet been developed to the stage to be useful for homeowners.

Green technology does not only provide a clean and environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuel burning but it also aims to reduce the pressure on other non-renewable resources such as drinking water. The Western world does not have problems with adequate amounts of clean water so far but if the global population continues to increase at the current rate and if the rate of groundwater pollution will not decrease, Western countries will face serious problems with supply of drinking water as well. Unlike fossil fuels, water has no alternative and technology which helps reduce water consumption such as rainwater collecting and water recycling (purification of waste water) is therefore just as important as sustainable sources of energy.
